Unless specified otherwise in the products description all products are made from a mild steel. Most products are covered in a light coat of Boiled Linseed Oil before being shipped out UNLESS the product is used for/around food then it is coated in Olive Oil.

Lightly Polished- due to not being highly polished there is a decent chance of rust if not handled often.
Blackened- blackening happens when a mix of oil and wax is burned onto the surface of the metal. This is a very rust resistant.
Brassed- as long as the brass is covering the whole product the steel covered should not rust, however if the brass is removed from normal wear and tear then it may be susceptible to rust.
Blued- The way I blue my products is with heat. The heat creates a super thin layer of Oxides that helps protect the steel from rust, but like the brass abrasion from normal wear and tear can remove this layer and make it susceptible to rust.

If your product is being used every single day and being handled then the oils from your hands and constant abrasion will do a lot to keep your product from rusting.
Otherwise it may be necessary to add just enough oil to lightly cover the whole product a few times a year or as needed.
I use Boiled Linseed Oil for most products and Olive Oil for any product used with or around food.

If you notice a light amount of rust on your product DON’T PANIC! Simply use a soft abrasive pad and rub the rust loose then wipe it away with a clean rag. Then make sure it is a dry as possible and apply a small amount of appropriate oil depending on if you use your product with food or not.
